Why TEACHING is the BEST Job Ever!

Allow me to give you 5 reasons why teaching is the best job ever. Here it is: (1) You'll get tons of workload; (2) you have to smile even in your worst days; (3) you'll meet the most notorious student; (4) you'll have to take on multiple professions; (5) and you have to love even when it already hurts. Ahhh… Ok, that did not sound very optimistic right? But I promise you that if you read further, I might just be able to change your mind and heart about the teaching profession.

1. You'll get tons of workload.
One of the main tasks of a teacher is to prepare a learning plan and execute it. He/she has to do it each and every day. At the end of each school day, a teacher has to check mountains of test papers and worse, tons of essays. To make the work even more burdensome, there are other school forms that must be accomplished. But no matter, each carefully prepared lesson plan, each mark and constructive comment on the student's paper, and each data on the school form are all worth the effort because a teacher knows that these are all strong foundations for the future of each student.

2. You'll meet the most notorious student.
There will be classes that you will never ever want to enter. Why? Imagine it this way. Once you open the door of that class, you won't be transported to a serene oasis, but you will enter a wild jungle wherein the students are now the gorillas, baboons, tigers, and all other forms of horror imaginable. On top of that, there would be the so-called "Lion King." That would be the student whose main existential purpose is to make your life like a living hell. But no matter, for a teacher, this is a rare and a once in a life time opportunity to turn these vicious wolves into a gentle and meek lamb. Turns out, no matter how hard headed the boys and girls are, a teacher's love for them is able to seep through the iron covering of their heart.

3. You have to smile even in your worst days.
It can't be helped. There will be times that you'll feel under the weather. You are so sick that getting up from your beloved bed is one of the most painful struggles of life. Aside from that, when you are so downtrodden with the many problems of life, you will still have to report for work. You are not allowed to be irritable or surly to your students. You have to stand in front of the class and put on a sincere smile. Why? For a teacher, his/her personal problems are little compared to the duty of transmitting knowledge and wisdom to these youngsters who are longing and seeking for them. He/she has to put on a happy face because teaching and learning has to be a positive experience for both parties. If it is otherwise, just imagine its repercussion to the society's future.

4. You'll have to take on multiple professions.
Every teacher earned a Bachelor's degree in education. However, it seems that teachers are working as a counselor, doctor, artist, architect, engineer, police, janitor, etc. Teachers take on many roles inside the classroom. At the end of the day a teacher will ask whether what he/she does are actually part of the job description. Nevertheless, regardless of the many roles, a teacher will do all of them head on. Why? Because a teacher needs to guide the students to the right path. Students will need a model to look up to that will show them the value of doing what is right.

5. You have to love even when it already hurts.
When you love someone, one of the best things that you can give to that person is your time. Teachers are known to be the best investors of their time. They spend so much time with their students. They even spend their precious time at home finishing their work. Sometimes what a teacher wants is some affirmation and consolation from his/her students. However, there will be times wherein a teacher will come unappreciated by the people around him/her especially by his/her students. Moreover, when he/she sees his/her class become all the more worse in front of others because of the mistakes that they are doing, a teacher will ask himself/ herself, 'where did I go wrong?'. It becomes too painful to love your students knowing that you feel as if that they are not learning from you. But the teacher must not go unhinged. He/she must continue to love his/her students because love is transformative. If the love of God can change us why not share that very same love to others who are in need of it in order to transform them.

So this is yours truly practicing the greatest profession of all,
The Teaching Profession.
So yes, a teacher will never receive a fat paycheck to compensate for the experiences mentioned above because this profession is founded on the workings of the heart. It is only with the heart can a teacher be able to navigate through the stormy seas of teaching. But as long as a teacher remains faithful to the profession, the sunshine and the rainbow after the storm will always be an exquisite and beautiful delight for the teacher which in fact is more than enough to go through the storm once again.
